FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

You can find answers to the most frequently asked questions from our customers here.

Can I use Omnia’s recipes with a Maxi dish 3L?

Our recipes are based on being prepared in an Omnia® Classic Original 2L. Omnia® Classic Maxi 3L is 50 percent larger. Therefore, in most recipes, you can increase the amount by half to double the batch. Start by increasing by half a batch only for recipes where the ingredients will rise in the pan during cooking. The cooking times are the same.

My Silicone Mould is damaged. How did that happen?

Damage to the Silicone Mould is usually caused by heat that is too high. Either the base was not used (it must always be used!) or the heat from the cooker was too high. If you are using an LPG cooker, it is especially important to be careful with the heat.

Must I use a silicone mould?

No, not at all. Everything you can do with a silicone mould, you can also do directly in a well-greased and floured (when baking) Omnia® pan. The silicone mould primarily provides easier cleaning of the dish. The moulds are especially appreciated by those who cook gratins and other food that normally sticks to the pan. When baking, the silicone mould makes it easier to pick up and tap out the bread or cake.

The Silicone Mould seems to be absorbing flavours. What should I do?

Try washing it with lemon water.

Tips from customers:

Preheat the oven at home to 175 °C/350 °F. Wash the silicone mould and place it in the oven for about 30 minutes.

How do you clean the Silicone Mould?

Wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid. It is also dishwasher safe.

Can I use the Omnia on a barbecue?

Yes indeed. Omnia can used on all sources of heat except induction hobs. The challenge can be to figure out the right heat for the Omnia.

Does the Omnia work on a Trangia stove?

Yes, the Omnia works on a Trangia stove. Place the oven where you would normally use the frying pan.

Can I use the Omnia on a ceramic hob?

Yes, you can.

Can I use the Omnia on an electric burner?

Yes, the Omnia works great on an electric burner, preferably 2000W.

Does the Omnia® Classic work with induction?

No, induction only produces under heat. And not enough.

The stainless steel base is magnetic and therefore works on induction. But the shape of the bowl means that there is not enough heat. In addition, it doesn’t create any hot air that provides the heat from above. Do not use Omnia® Classic on induction.

Does the Omnia® Classic come in other sizes?

Is the Omnia available in stainless steel?

No, the Omnia is made only in aluminium.

I put my Omnia Pan in the dishwasher. Now it is discoloured and has a coating on it. Is the coating dangerous?

No, it is not dangerous. You can keep using your Omnia. The Pan will just be a little rougher and not as nice and smooth as before.

Can I put the Omnia® Classic in the dishwasher?

No! Aluminum should be washed by hand to avoid discolouration.

How do I clean my Omnia® Classic?

The best way to clean the Omnia® oven is to let it stand for a while with cold water in it. The cold water dissolves the starch in the food. Then wash with a little washing-up liquid in warm water as usual.

How do I know how much heat to use?

Be careful with the heat, on a gas stove it’s easy to get too hot.

  • On portable electric hot plate 2,000 W – use high heat.
  • On an alcohol stove (like Origo/Cookmate) with an output of 2,000 W – a little less than half the output is usually fine.
  • On a gas hob 2,500 W – start off testing just above the lowest flame.

Hint!

For short cooking times (10–20 minutes in total) and on an electric hot plate, the stainless steel base can be preheated on high heat for about 3 minutes. This facilitates the heating of the oven. Some bread and cakes need to be kick-started with a preheated base and oven at highest heat for 1 minute. Much like when you set a baking tray in a regular hot oven to get extra effect.

Do you have to grease the Omnia?

Yes. If you use the Silicone Mould, it should always be generously greased and if you are using it to bake, flour it too.

Should there be water in the base?

No, do not put water in the base. The bottom heat rises from the hot air.

How does the Omnia® Classic work?

Omnia® Classic is a construction made up of three parts. The parts must always be used together and provide both heat from above and below. The Omnia® oven is a specially designed round shape with a hole in the middle. It stands on a bowl-shaped base that also has a hole in the middle. The bowl shape conducts warm air from the heat source along the underside of the Omnia® oven and provides heat from below. The center holes in the base and the Omnia® dish allows the heat from the stove to rise up through the construction, hit the lid and provide heat from above. The lid has ventilation holes.
